Hi! I’m Lina, a Colombian who arrived in Australia in 2015 with a suitcase full of dreams and big expectations, ready to study English… without knowing that this would be the beginning of a great adventure.

My story has been a journey of learning, perseverance, and transformation. When I arrived in Australia, I dove into my studies, worked all kinds of casual jobs, and learned how to live in a country completely different from my own. Like many migrants, I faced challenges, lived through moments of uncertainty, but also found deep joy. I came to understand what it means to be far from family, what it takes to study and work at the same time, and what it really means to adapt to a new culture while still chasing your dreams.

Today, I can say with gratitude that Australia welcomed me, became my home, and now I’m proud to be an Australian citizen.

The path wasn’t easy. While I enjoyed discovering kangaroos and animals I never imagined seeing, and was constantly amazed by the beauty of Australia, I was also trying to stay afloat under all the responsibilities I carried. It was during those moments that I discovered parts of myself I didn’t know existed—along with the strength that comes from getting up again and again, no matter how hard things may seem.

I’m deeply grateful for my decision to migrate because this experience has transformed my life in ways I never imagined. Now, I dedicate myself to sharing what I’ve learned along the way. I want to use my experiences not just to inform, but to inspire and connect. I believe in the power of community, in the value of real stories, and in all we can achieve when we support one another.

Why we created 'Latinos en Aus'

This blog was born out of the desire to connect with and support the Latin community in Australia. After nearly a decade of living here, I felt the need to share the knowledge and experience I’ve gathered, to help ease the path for others who, like me, are arriving with hopes of building a new life.

Latinos en AUS is a tool designed for those planning to come to Australia to study or work, as well as for those who are already here taking their first steps and facing everyday challenges. On this platform, you’ll find useful information about daily life—from how to apply for jobs or study opportunities to visa advice and many other important topics for building a life here.

But beyond the practical information, we aim to offer a real and honest perspective. We’re not an agency, and we’re not here to sell study packages or make promises. We are a community sharing the truth about what it really means to live in Australia. Here, you’ll find not only the beautiful parts and the things that sound good, but also the struggles and realities that people don’t always talk about.
